Goalie joins three other Wildcats as first team picks

Verona sophomore goalie Alex Jones was perfect for the first 141 minutes and 18 seconds of his state tournament, stopping 66 straight shots before allowing a goal to Luke Tepp of Onalaska in the third period of the Wildcats 6-1 state title game victory. He finished the weekend with 67 saves in 68 shots (.985) and led the Verona Wildcats to their first WIAA state championship.

As a result, Jones was selected as the tournament MVP by WiPH staff and selected media members for his efforts.

His 0.33 GAA for the three games moves him up to the number two spot in state tournament lore, trailing only Greg Ammerman of Madison West who shut out two opponents in helping the Regents earn their first state title in 1983.

Jones shut out Superior in the quarters on 23 shots in a 3-0 win and stepped up even more as he blanked Notre Dame in semifinal action on 36 shots in a 1-0 victory.

He is joined on the First Team by teammates Charlie Parker, Brogan Baker, and Philippe Fromberger.
