LeClaire stops 34 shots in win over top-seeded Wings

#1 Waukesha and second-seeded KMMO met Saturday night at Wilson Park to decide which Milwaukee area team was going to represent Sectional 7 at next week's state tournament.

Although the Wings got on the board first, it was KMMO that scored the most as they left the ice as 3-1 winners and will face Onalaska in the final game (~ 8:15pm) on 'Q Thursday' at the Alliant Energy Center.

Zed Dietrich got the Wings on the board first with just over six minutes remaining in the first period while on the penalty kill. His short-handed tally was the 43rd goal and 99th point of the year for Dietrich, who will be honored in Madison next week as one of eight finalists for the Player of the Year award. Logan Geisness earned an assist on the play.

Three minutes later, Brandon Beier scored to tie it for KMMO, with helpers to Connor Freeman and Jonathan Carfagna.

Waukesha held a 15-11 shot edge in the period.

It looked like the second period would be scoreless, but Allan Moutvic changed that notion as he scored with just over a minute left in the period to give KMMO a 2-1 lead. Alex Manske and Nick Bateson added assists on the score.

KMMO almost doubled up on shots in the period, 17-9 over Waukesha.

Jeff Johnson added the final score of the game with his goal with 1:26 left. Beier and Carfagna each had a hand in the scoring on the play.

Shots were almost even in the period, with Waukesha holding a slight 12-11 edge.

Max LeClaire had a spectacular game, stopping 34 of 35 shots fired at him, while Waukesha's Jake Kupsky was nearly as good, finishing with 37 saves.
