Lady Hilltoppers Advance to Sectional Three Final

Torpy stops 52 shots for Icebergs

Theresa Knutson 2 goals and 2 assists

The Lady Hilltoppers hosted the Stoughton Icebergs with advancement to the sectional 3 final on the line.  The game featured a match-up of the two time defending Jinelle Siergiej Award winner, Theresa Knutson, and the defending Jessie Vetter Award winner, Mackenzie Torpy.  Knutson finished the regular season with 87 points (69 goals, 18 assists).  Torpy led the girls with a .953 save percentage during the regular season and was in the top five with a 1.41 goals allowed average.

The Icebergs had the first power play opportunity at the 6:44 mark of the first, when Onalaska's Jamie Weilandt was called for interference.  Onalaska killed off the penalty.  Stoughton's Maddy Hess was called for tripping at 8:32.  The Hilltoppers took advantage of the power play opportunity, when Chazlyn Anderson scored with Theresa Knutson and Mackenzie Steinfadt assisting with 8 seconds left on the power play.  Onalaska increased their lead to two, when Theresa Knutson scored an unassisted goal at 15:19 of the first.  Jeanalyn Schindler finished the period with 4 saves for Onalaska, while Torpy had 25 saves for the Icebergs.

The second period started and within the first nine minutes we had two penalties against the Icebergs and one against the Hilltoppers.  Neither team was able to score during their powerplay opportunities.  The Icebergs Rachel Dvorak cut into the Hilltopper lead with an unassisted goal at 11:25 of the second to make the score 2-1.  Jamie Weilandt bumped the lead back up to two with 2:25 left on the clock.  Lucy Anderholm and Kyla Bantle assisted on the goal.  Schindler had 8 saves in the second.  Torpy stopped 17 shots.

The third period scoreboard belonged to Onalaska.  Thirty seconds into the third, Chazlyn Anderson picked up her second goal with Knutson and Kianna Kalmes assisting.  Jacyn Reeves made the score 5-1 at 13:34 of the third with an assist from Jamie Weilandt.  Knutson put a cap on the scoring with an unassisted goal with 1:49 remaining in the game.  Torpy had 10 saves in the final period for a game total of 52, while Schindler collected 4 saves for 17 in the game.

Onalaska moves on to their third straight sectional final game.  They will play the Middleton Metro Lynx on Saturday, March 1st.  Currently the game is scheduled to be played at Madison Ice Arena with the opening face-off at 8:00 PM.
