Plaza and Guenther each tally three points in 7-0 win

If anyone thought that the Central Wisconsin Storm was looking past its sectional semifinal game with the Point-Rapids Red Panthers, those ideas were quickly dispelled by the midway point of the first period.

The Storm scored a pair of early power play goals and never looked back as they handed the visitors a 7-0 thumping Tuesday evening at Greenheck Ice Arena.

The hosts got on the board just over two minutes in when Maggie Plaza scored from the right dot on assists from Kelly Knetter and Alex Guenther at the 2:31 mark for a power play goal.

The second goal came just over five minutes later while the Storm was on its second man advantage. Marissa Matushak moved in from her spot at the left point and her shot bounced off the stick of Red Panthers goalie Emily Bubla and dribbled in at 8:12, with an assist to Plaza.

The scoreboard changed to 3-0 seventy seconds later when Savannah Felch punched in a rebound from the low right side, with helpers going to Megan Marlowe and Ashley Zacho. That's how the period ended with the home team holding a huge 20-2 shot advantage.

The Storm scored a trio of goals in the middle period to send the game to run-time just past the halfway mark.

Plaza scored her second goal just less than five minutes in. The team was working the puck behind the net when she converted a pass to the low slot into a marker, with help from Guenther and Zacho.

A couple minutes later Jamie Henrickson put a shot on goal thru traffic from the left dot that Bubla never saw to make it 5-0. Elizabeth Bauer earned an assist on the play.

The game did go to running time at 9:29 when Knetter's laser from the left circle made it 6-0. Guenther earned a playmaker with her assist.

After a couple failed power plays, the Storm was content to skate off with a six-goal lead. Shots were 15-2 in the period.
