Playing shorthanded suits Madison Edgewood just fine against Waunakee

Pete Rothering wouldn’t necessarily choose to have his Madison Edgewood boys hockey team play a man down.

But the Crusaders' coach definitely enjoyed the spark that only the penalty kill seemed to inspire Thursday night.

Battling a case of dead legs for much of the evening, the second-seeded Crusaders generated a pair of shorthanded goals that helped them turn back seventh-seeded Waunakee, 6-3, in a WIAA boys hockey regional final at Madison Ice Arena.
