Torpy stops 34 of 35 to help Icebergs advance

The third meeting of the Badger Thunder and Stoughton Co-op Icebergs was a battle to advance to the sectional 3 semi-finals.  It was a battle from the beginning and the first period ended where it began, tied at 0.  Mackenzie Torpy had 11 saves for the Icebergs, while Jamie Dutton had 8 saves for the Badger Thunder.

The second period saw the Badger Thunder on the attack during a power play opportunity.  The Icebergs were doing a great job of killing off the penalty and took advantage of the Badger Thunder having difficulty clearing the puck from their defensive zone.  Katie Glover scored a short handed goal with 4 seconds remaining on the penalty kill situation.  The Icebergs scored their second goal, when Rachel Dvorak and Casey Marsh assisted on Glover's second goal.  The third goal for Stoughton was scored after a defensive player from the Badger Thunder took a shot from just inside the blueline of the Icebergs defensive zone.  The puck was blocked by Rachel Dvorak.  Dvorak picked up the puck, took it the length of the ice and increased the lead to 3-0 with Glover being credited with an assist on the play.  The Badger Thunder were able to pull within two as Rachel Pawlak scored with Kathryn Vander Schaaf and Kristen South assisting on the play.  Torpy had 10 saves in the period for a two period total of 21.  Dutton's save total went to 18 as she stopped 10 shots in the second.

There was one goal scored in the third period.  Rachel Dvorak stole the puck just inside the Badger Thunder's defensive zone and skated to the high slot.  Dvorak took the shot and scored.  Glover was credited with her second assist.  Dutton had 12 saves in the period to finish with 30 saves.  Torpy collected 13 saves and had 34 saves for the game.

The #4 seeded Icebers will play the top seeded Onalaska Hilltoppers on Tuesday, February 25th, at the Omni Center in Onalaska.  The puck is scheduled to drop at 7:30 PM.
