Big Third Period Brings Victory for RWD

Cardinals fall as RWD converts two power play goals

Reedsburg/Wisconsin Dells traveled to Sun Prairie to play the Cardinals at the new Sun Prairie Ice Arena.  RWD entered the game with an 8-11-1 record, while Sun Prairie had a 5-14-1 record.

Sun Prairie’s C. J. Trow was called for a high-sticking penalty at 1:08 of the first period.  The Cardinals killed off the penalty.  RWD’s Zach Clisch was given a 5 minute major and 10 minute misconduct for checking from behind at 9:30 of the period.  Unfortunately, Sun Prairie was not able to capitalize on the 5 minute power play.  The first period ended the way it started tied at 0.  Michael Olson had 11 saves for RWD, while Jake Thonrton had 4 saves for the Cardinals.

The second period found RWD being called for one penalty, while Sun Prairie was called for three with Nick Nelson receiving a 2 & 10 for checking from behind.  The difference in the period was Sun Prairie’s  Chase Mikula scoring an even strength goal with Aystyn Trent and Zach Carey assisting on the play with 1:35 remaining in the period.  Thornton made16 saves in the second period for a total of 20 through two periods.  Olson had 5 saves in the second for a total of 16 saves.

The third period belonged to RWD and saw them convert on 2 of 4 power play opportunities, which they had in the period.  Jordan Bill tied the game for RWD as they capitalized on their first power play opportunity of the third period at the 5:38 mark with Zach Clisch and Andrew Schulenburg assisting.  Clisch gave RWD the lead wth 6:03 left in the third as RWD took advantage of another power play opportunity with Bill and Schulenburg being credited with assists.  Clisch put the game away at 14:35 of the third with an assist from Jordan Bill.  Michael Olson finished the game with a total of 22 saves, while Sun Prairie's Thornton collected a total of 28 saves.  Final score RWD 3 Sun Prairie 1.
