Siclovan's Fine Effort Spoiled By Bresser's OT Hat Trick Winner

Being the State Champion guarantees one thing in the following season: everyone gives you their best shot the following season.

"Everyone we play is a tough game and hopefully this will prepare us for down the road," said Memorial Head Coach Mike Schwengler.

The SPASH Panthers got great goaltending from Nathan Siclovan, but Jake Bresser's OT game winner 32 seconds in gave ECM a 4-3 win over SPASH.

SPASH got the scoring started with 6:34 left in the first period when Tyler McHugh scored his first of two goals giving the Panthers an early 1-0 lead.

The Abes got it tied late in the period with a goal by Jake Bresser. With Dylan Ross in the penalty box, Bresser got a feed from Charley Graaskamp, wheeled around at the circle and snapped off a shot blocker side on Siclovan for the shorthanded goal to tie game at 1-1, which is how the period ended.

The second period saw the Abes get in some serious penalty trouble. "We didn't do ourselves alot of favors by sitting in the penalty box for half the game," said Schwengler. "We have numbers but can't use them killing penalties."

SPASH used the power play to tie the game with McHugh's second goal of the game. But Memorial had the reply when Bresser scored on a breakaway for a 2-2 tie after two periods.

The third period saw the Abes take the lead on a power play tally by Ross with 14 1/2 minutes left in the the third period. But still SPASH continued to work hard and when Graaskamp went to the box for a cross check, the Panthers tied it with a goal by Kobe Keller, who got fed in the slot and wristed a shot behind ECM goalie Nick Schreiter for a tie game again.

The teams played deadlocked thru the rest of regulation, but it took 32 seconds in overtime for the Bresser goal which Siclovan got a piece of but rolled in the net for the winner and top off Bresser"s hat trick.

"Its a work in progress and only time will tell," said Schwengler. "We've needed to get more shots and tonite we got near 40 and four went in."

Schreiter finished with 20 saves for the Old Abes, while Siclovan ended with 32 stops for the Panthers.
