Former Janesville Star Nominated. Madison Hosts Pond Hockey Event.

Hobey Hopeful ?

Former Janesville Bluebird stand out Ross Mauerman has his name in the college hockey national spotlight.
The former All State player and former Janesville Jet has been nominated as a candidate for college hockey's top award.

The Hobey Baker Award.

The Hobey Baker Award is the equivalent of college football's Heisman Trophy. Fan balloting began the other day and Mauermann had over 800 fan votes which puts him in the top ten of the fan vote. Mauermann leads the Providence College Friars in scoring with 14 goals and 15 assists for 29 points thru 22 games. Those numbers are also good enough for a tie in 8th place in Division I scoring.
Only a Junior, Mauermann is a key part of the Friars turnaround. Mauermann was named to the All Rookie Team in Hockey East with 10 goals and 15 assists for 25 points.  The Friars have been ranked  #1 this season under third year Coach Nate Leaman. Fan voting runs into March. Go to www.hobeybaker.com and cast your vote.

Bergler on our podcast talked about painted goalposts and white nets . I chimed in about clock digits. The Madison Ice Arena was the rink I was talking about. The old scoreboard there always seems to have "digit problems". 8's that look like 6's got me the last time I was there not too long ago. Good thing the other scoreboard is operating fine.... I think.
