Harry Seid Comes Up Big Again!!!!

How big a game was the match-up between Verona and Madison West.  It was a rematch of a game played on December 7, which Verona won on an overtime goal by Harry Seid.  A win by the Madison West Regents would give them a share of the lead in the Big Eight Conference.  These are a couple of the reasons it was chosen as the Wisconsin Prep Hockey Game of the Week.

The game started with both teams moving the puck and playing a very physical game.  Unfortunately for the Verona Wildcats, Joe Stevens was accessed a 2 minute minor for head contact at 6:28 of the first period.  However, it was Harry Seid of Verona that scored while Stevens was in the sin bin.  Seid's short handed goal came at 7:44.

Sean Walker tied the game for the Regents with 5 minutes remaining in the period with James Pretto and Kalen Balas assisting on the even strength goal.  Madison West went on the power play for the second time, when Charlie Parker was called for interference at 15:22.  Thirty-one seconds later James Pretto scored a power play goal for the Regents as Balas picked up his second assist.  Kevin Joswiak finished the period with 10 saves for Madison West, while Nathan Cleghorn had 6 saves for Verona.

The second period started with West's Griffin Epping going to the penalty box for holding 44 seconds into the period.  The Regents killed off this penalty, but the power play would turn into a popular occurrence in the period.  James Pretto was called for tripping at 2:39.  This time the Wildcats were able to capitalize on the opportunity.  Harry Seid collected the power play goal at 3:49 of the period with Charlie Parker and Pat Stevens being credited with assists.  Epping picked up two more penalties in the period (both for holding), while Liam Schmitt of Verona was called for holding, too.  However, neither team was able to take advantage of the opportunities.  Seid completed the natural hat trick at the 13:01 with Brogan Baker and Phillippe Fromberger assisting on the goal.  Verona led 3-2 at the end of two.  Cleghorn had 4 saves in the period, while Joswiak had 14 saves.

Charlie Parker increased Verona's lead to 2 at 2:43 of the third period with Harry Seid and Pat Stevens picking up assists on the goal.  Liam Schmitt completed the scoring at 5:56 with Josh Novotny and Brodie Roehrig collecting the assists.  Cleghorn had 3 saves in the period and finished with 13 saves. Joswiak had 14 saves and 38 saves total.

Verona took a two game lead in the conference going to 8-0 in the Big Eight and 10-0-2 overall.  Madison West fell to 6-2 in the Big Eight and 7-3-0 overall.
