Junior scores three times, including SO goal

Even though junior defenseman Ellie Bohm came into Saturday's Culvers Cup contest without a goal this season, that didn't keep her from firing shots on net.

She scored twice on power play goals and added a shootout tally to lead the Metro Lynx to a 3-2 win over the Point-Rapids Red Panthers, but by WIAA rules the game is considered a tie.

The Red Panthers got on the board first just over four minutes into the period. Amanda Milanowski put a shot on net from the top fo the left circle, but the rebound bounced onto Kaylee Bruneau's stick and the freshman knocked it past Lynx goalie Hunter Kurbel at the 4:34 mark. Hailey Ehr also was credited with an assist on the play.

The score stayed 1-0 until late in the period with the Lynx on a power play. Just 12 seconds into the player advantage, Bohm fired a shot from the left point that found its way thru heavy traffic and past Red Panther goalie Merina Chappel. The goal came at 14:59, with Carly Pschorr earning her first of two assists.

With less than a minute to play, the Red Panthers took the lead on a hustle goal by Bryar Brooks. The freshman grabbed a pass in the neutral zone and skated down the right side before going into the corner and sending a shot on net from the tough angle. The puck got past Kurbel to give the Red Panthers a 2-1 lead with 51 seconds left. Kiana Coombs got an assist on the score.

Kurbel had five saves in the period, while Chappel stopped two shots.

Early in the second period the Red Panthers took two penalties and killed off one before Bohm added her second goal. While on the power play, she took the puck from the top of the umbrella and skated into the high slot before firing a shot through a forest of players and into the net. Pschorr earned her second assist for the goal at 3:19.

The period ended with a tie score. Kurbel had three saves in the period, while Chappel and Emily Bubla combined for seven saves.

The third period was scoreless, with Kurbel making four stops for the Lynx and Bubla saving nine.

In OT, Kurbel had four saves and Bubla had seven for the Red Panthers.

Bohm and Lizzy Conybear scored in the shootout, while Ehr notched the Red Panthers only goal.

Kurbel had 16 saves in the contest for the Lynx (6-4-1), while Chappel (6) and Bubla (19) combined for 25 stops for the Red Panthers (3-5-2).
