Zachary Kennedy took a feed from Noah Weber and fired a one-timer over Antigo goaltender Ryan Schmidt with 1:17 remaining in overtime to give the Northland Pines Eagles a 3-2 win over the host Antigo Red Robins on Thursday night, and sole possession of first place in the Great Northern Conference.

The game started out rather conservatively, as many games do, with each team feeling the other out. Shots were fairly even at 7-6 in favor of the Robins, but Pines tallied the only goal. Kennedy managed to squeeze the puck between Schmidt's pad from a sharp angle along the left side.

Antigo came out with a mission in the second, controlling most of the action and putting 16 shots on Pines goalie Jacob Stephan. But only one of those found the back of the net. Matt Wolter scored a power play goal on a wrist shot from the right face-off circle with just 7 seconds left in the period to draw the Robins even.

Antigo kept the pressure on in the third period, again out-shooting the Eagles 10-6. But that offensive pressure came at a price. Noah Webber got behind the pulled in Robin defenders and caught a breakout pass from Kennedy, coming in on Schmidt all alone and beating him with a high shot. Baily Ramesh also assisted on the play.

Matt Wolter brought the Robins back again with another power play goal from the right face-off circle. The power play came after a controversial too many men on the ice penalty called by the linesman. Nobody scored in the last 6 minutes and the game went into overtime.

But Antigo drew a hooking penalty at the end of regulation, so the Eagles began the overtime on the power play. Just 9 seconds in, the Robins drew a tripping penalty, and Pines was set up with a 5 on 3 advantage for the next 1:51.

Antigo killed the penalty, limiting the Eagles to 4 shots, but Pines would prevail 4 minutes later.

Ryan Schmidt stopped 20 pucks on the night, while a busy Jacob Stephan made 35 saves.
