Badger Thunder fall to Hilltoppers

Onalaska Picks Up Sixth Straight Win

 

Onalaska traveled to Reedsburg to play the Badger Thunder on Tuesday evening.  While the rink was cold, the Hilltoppers continued their hot pace for the 2013-14 hockey season.

 

Theresa Knutson put the Hilltoppers on the board first, when she took a pass from Jaime Weilandt and slipped it pass the Thunder’s Jaimie Dutton 50 seconds into the game.  Chazlyn Anderson scored the second goal at 4:14 of the first period with Jacyn Reeves collecting an assist on the play.  Knutson scored her second goal of the game with 16 seconds remaining in the period to put the Hilltoppers up 3-0.  Dutton finished the period with 12 saves.  Jeanalyn Schindler had 12 saves for Onalaska.

 

As the second period started, Onalaska started the scoring quickly once again.  Knutson scored an unassisted goal 55 seconds into the period.  Anderson collected her second goal of the game with Reeves and Mac Steinfadt assisting on the play at 1:31 of the period.  Twenty-five seconds later, the Badger Thunder were able to get on the board with a goal from Tiara Barney and an assist being credited to Rachael Pawlak.  The Thunder scored their second goal with 11:14 showing on the clock.  Justine Bradley scored the goal, while Pawlak collected her second assist cutting into the Onalaska lead and making the score 5-2.  The Hilltoppers were not done as Onalaska’s Sarah Buswell scored an unassisted goal at 7:48 of the period.  One minute two seconds later Weilandt collected her second assist on a goal by Lucy Anderholm.  Theresa Knutson scored her fourth goal of the evening with 5:54 remaining in the period with Taylor Monroe being credited with an assist.  Reeves converted on a power play opportunity for Onalaska with Anderholm and Anderson assisting at 16:08 of the second period.  Dutton had 17 saves in the period for a total of 29 saves, while Schindler had 6 saves for a total of 18.  The score at the end of two, Onalaska 9 Badger Thunder 2.

 

Both teams switched out goalies in the third period.  Ali Christenson took over for Onalaska, while Gabby Christenson went into the goal for the Badger Thunder.  Anderholm scored the second power play goal for the Hilltoppers with Knutson and Weilandt assisting at 5:40 of the third period.  Weilandt scored the final Onalaska goal with Knutson and Kyla Bantle assisting at 6:01 of the period.  Katherine Vander Schaaf scored a power play goal at 8:17 of the period with Bradley and Pawlak assisting.  The Thunder’s Abby Allen scored a short-handed goal at 14:47 of the period.  Vander Schaaf scored her second goal of the game with Pawlak collecting her fourth assist for the Thunder with 10 seconds remaining in the game.  Gabby Christenson and Ali Christenson both had 8 saves in the final period.  Final score – Onalaska 11 Badger Thunder 5.

The Badger Thunder's next game is Saturday, December 21, in Janesville versus Rock County Fury.  Onalaska will play their next game on Friday, December 20, when they host the WSFLGUS Blizzard.
