Visiting Northern Edge got two second period goals and that was enough to give them a 2-1 win over the Point-Rapids Red Panthers Friday the 13th at the South Wood County Rec Center.

The home squad got on the board first when Rachel Metz skated from right to left in the low slot and back-handed the puck past Edge goalie Shea Petersen at the 9:03 mark.

The period ended with shots at seven apiece.

Lauren Smith scored for the Edge when she walked in from her left defense spot and beat Red Panther goalie Emily Bubla on the blocker side from the low left circle area at 8:56. That goal came with the teams playing 4-on-4.

Late in the period, the Edge got the game-winner while on the power play.

Lindsey Steger fired a shot from the right point through heavy traffic and beat the goalie on a shot that the netminder never saw. Katie Detert got an assist on the goal at 13:54.

Both teams put nine pucks on net in the period.

The third period was scoreless even though the Edge had a PP chance late.

Bubla came off for an extra skater with 1:15 left and after an Edge icing with 1.9 seconds left, the Red Panthers had a 6-on-5 faceoff to Petersen's right. The puck was shot toward the goal, but the horn sounded without a score.

Each team had eleven shots in the scoreless stanza.

Petersen stopped 26 shots for the Edge, who improved to 4-2 (3-0 GNC), while Bubla made 25 saves for the Red Panthers, who fell to 2-4 (2-1 GNC).
