Johnson and Squires lead Hudson to 6-1 victory

After a first period where they fired 18 shots on net but were only able to score a single goal, the Hudson Raiders figured out how to be successful in the second period, scoring four times to ease past the Point-Rapids Red Panthers 6-1 Saturday afternoon in the Wisconsin River Classic consolation game in Wisconsin Rapids.

Sydney Squires scored on a power play, with helpers from Ali Takkunen and Paige Johnson, at 7:34 of the first period. Shots were 18-6 in favor of Hudson as the period ended.

The second period was a different story, as the Raiders scored on three successive shots, driving Red Panther goalie Emily Bubla from the game.

Squires, Johnson, and Katie Meierotto scored in the span of five minutes to make the score 4-0. Johnson, Squires, and Takkunen had assists on the trio of goals.

Merina Chappel replaced Bubla in net after the fourth goal.

It looked like the score would hold, but the Raiders got another goal from Johnson at 16:26, with an assist to Sara Iacobello to make it 5-0.

Shots were 11-6 in favor of Hudson in the period.

The Red Panthers got on the board early in the period with an unassisted goal from Katrina Hassig at 5:27.
