Felch Provides Offense

Storm Defense Smothers Lynx

The Storm traveled to Madison Ice Arena determined to show the Lynx why they are one of the top teams in the state.  Central Wisconsin started the game by getting the puck deep into the offensive zone and doing their best to keep it there.  Savannah Felch gave the Storm the lead at 6:35 of the first period, when she shot the puck between Kurbel and the right side pipe.  That would be the only goal of the period, which saw Hunter Kurbel make 8 saves for the Lynx.  Lisa Fowle had 5 saves for the Storm.

The second period was dominated by the Storm as they outshot the Lynx 13 to 1.  The Lynx were called for tripping with 7:16 remaining in the period putting the Storm on the power play  Felch increased the Storm lead to 2 right after the power play expired with a beautiful wrap around with an assist from Ashley Zacho.  Fowle made 1 save in the period, while Kurbel had 12 saves.  Storm up 2-0 at the end of two.

The third period had a scare 2 minutes 56 seconds into the period, when Anna Buno was checked from behind into the boards.  After a delay, Buno was taken to the hospital.

Wisconsin Prep Hockey received word from Metro Lynx head coach Peter Brunner stating, "X-rays looked good. She'll be out at least a week with a head injury, but diagnosis was positive."

After play resumed, Central Wisconsin was able to kill off the 5 minute major.  Katelynn Schilling increased the lead to 3, when she scored a goal at the 11:28 mark of the third period.  Katelyn Ramthun and Marissa Matushak assisted on the goal.  Kurbel had 7 saves in the period for a game total of 27, while Fowle had 4 saves for a total of 10.

The Storm will travel to River Falls and play St. Croix Valley Fusion on Saturday, December 14th.  The Lynx will play host to the Bay Area Ice Bears of the 14th.
