Cougars Win 8-0

Sun Prairie Starts Fast

WiPH at the Game

Each season teams hope to start the season fast and the Sun Prairie Cougars accomplished that goal Saturday evening.  The Cougars scored early and often in the first period.  Sun Prairie led 6-0 at the end of the first period, which saw Claire Johnson complete a hat trick.  The Cougars scored two more goals in the second period to complete the scoring and an 8-0 victory.

Abby Weisrock finished the game with 26 saves for Arrowhead, while Sarah Fuerstenberg had 8 saves for Sun Prairie.

After the game, Wisconsin Prep Hockey, was able to catch up with Arrowhead's first year head coach Andy Smith and asked about four of his leaders on the team:  Cameron Nowicki; Cammy England; Jade Nielsen and Hanna Nicholson.  "They are the leaders.  They have been very good about working with the new girls on the team and encouraging them."   In talking it was learned that six of the players for the Warhawks played in their first hockey game on Saturday evening.

We had a chance to talk to the Cougars' Coach Johnson, too.  Coach Johnson stated, " We were able to get more playing time than we originally hoped for some of our newer players.  The team worked well at moving the puck and was able to help our younger players gain some confidence."  When asked about goalie Sarah Fuerstenberg keeping focus, coach replied, "Yes, she did an excellent job at maintaining her focus.  We have two strong goalies in Sarah and Dani Deltgen.  They each have different styles, but if you look  at their numbers from last year, they were very similar.  We look at the upcoming opponent and determine who will give us the stronger matchup in net."

Sun Prairie will open Badger Conference play on Tuesday, November 26, for their next game.  Arrowhead's next game will be on Friday, November 29, hosting Beaver Dam to open Eastern Shores Conference play.
