On a chilly evening in central Wisconsin, four girls' teams took the ice and broke up the doldrums of seven days of practice.

Host Point-Rapids was joined by Great Northern conference foe Marshfield, eastern rival Appleton United, and southern squad Badger Thunder at the Ice Hawks Arena in Stevens Point Tuesday evening before an estimated crowd of 200.

Per WIAA rules, no scores were kept, but the teams were fairly evenly matched as only one of the six contests could have been declared a 'blow-out.'

All in all, it was a good tune-up for the regular season, which begins on Friday for Appleton United as they meet the MSOE Icebergs in Waupun.

Next Tuesday, the Thunder hosts the Sun Prairie co-op while the Great Northen teams will both face stiff challenges.

The Red Panthers will kick off their season hosting the #1 pre-season pick Central Wisconsin Storm while Marshfield will take on visiting Onalaska, ranked second in the pre-season WiPH polls.
