Darren Lien was a great coach, husband, and father

The Wisconsin hockey community was deeply saddened by the loss of one of its greatest supporters.

Darren Lien passed away on Sunday, April 28, surrounded by his family. Lien lost a three-year battle to cancer, which had invaded his lungs, lymph nodes, and colon.

After a courageous battle that included many rounds of chemo, Darren asked to be moved home. In mid-January, he did so and was assisted by his family and a hospice team.

Darren was a long-time coach in the Grantsburg area, serving the game he loved for 26 years.

He is survived by his wife Lori; daughters Kelsey and Kassie; one brother and three sisters.

Both daughters play hockey, with Kassie currently a member of the WSFLG Blizzard and Team Wisconsin.

The staff of WiPH sends its deepest sympathies to the family in this trying time.
