UPDATED WITH GAME STORY

Superior scored three times in a five minute span in the middle of the final period to skate past Fond du Lac 6-3 in Quarterfinal Thursday action at The Clamshell.

The Spartans played a ferocious defensive game throughout, but would need a three-pack in the final 17 for the win.

Superior scored twice in 36 seconds in the middle of the first to take a quick 2-0 lead.

Tyler Nystrom grabbed the puck behind the net, skated out to the low left side and put the puck where momma keeps the thin mints for a 1-0 lead at 6:06. Aaron Miller got the assist.

Just a bit later, Miller tallied his own goal as he grabbed a puck off a face-off, drove to the net and stuffed it past FDL goalie Charlie Blagoue to make it 2-0.

There was no further scoring until just over a minute left when Fondy scored on the PP.

A shot from the point was stopped by Superior goalie Paxton Paine, but the rebound got stuck between his skates. Michael Wilson saw an opportunity and rammed the puck into the net with just 1:09 left in the first. Kyle Dunn and Ian Tess-Wanat got helpers on the play.

Superior outshot FDL 8-4 in the period.

Fondy tied the game at two six minutes into the second when Wilson got the puck on a breakaway, was stoned by Paine on the initial shot, but found it and snuck it into the net, with collaboration from Rex Whealon and Ty Rebedew.

The late period power play goal bit Fondy this time when Soup scored with 24 seconds left on the clock.

Aaron Wakefield-Zubiate tapped in a rebound to give the Spartans a 3-2 lead going into the final 17 minutes of play. Superior doubled up on shots, 12-6 in the period.

The Cardinals tied the game early in the third, but it didn't take long for Superior to knock in a pair to offset that goal.
