UPDATED WITH GAME STORY

Call it the 'Section 4 Curse.'

It doesn't matter how good they are, but for the last six years, the team from S4 has had the distinction of drawing the #1 team in the state in the quarterfinal round.

And so it was, that Wisconsin Rapids returned for the first time in three years and drew top-ranked Notre Dame on Quarterfinal Thursday at The Clamshell.

NDA would live up to that top-billing as they defeated the Red Raiders 7-0.

The game started out docile enough, but the Tritons would get on the board at the 6:16 mark with a Jason Reynolds score. Luke Davison got an assist on the play.

Five minutes later, Riley Christensen scored to make it 2-0 with his goal from the slot. Reynolds and Grant Kluesner got assists on the score.

Less than a minute later, Will Pavek scored with assists from Kluesner and Davison to make it 3-0, and that's how the period would end. Shots were 10-6 in the period, in favor of the Tritons.

The second period was the Tyler Gilbert Show.

The Rapids junior goalie came into the game with three consecutive playoff shutouts and showed why as he made a spectacular 19 saves in the middle period.

The Tritons had two power play chances, but were unable to score.

Shots were 19-4 in the period.

Notre Dame scored four times in the third to put the game away.

Christensen (twice), Sam McCormick, Brett Gruber (WiPH Joe Pavelski Top Offensive Player winner) all scored for NDA to account for the 7-0 final.

Shots were 14-5 in favor of the Tritons.

Eli Hicks stopped all 15 shots for the shutout, while Gilbert made 36 saves for Rapids, who finished their fine season with a mark of 18-9.

(Note: This 1978 Rapids graduate is proud of the play of the Red Raiders this year!!)
