SCT will be played in Waupun March 22-24

The 31st annual Senior Class Tournament will take place at the Waupun Community Center March 22-24. Eight teams--representing the eight state sections--will battle for bragging rights as the state's top seniors take the ice in Waupun.

Each team consists of 17 players:

  • Nine forwards
  • Six defensemen
  • Two goalies

Two games are played Friday night, and then two more Saturday morning before the teams split off to the winners and losers sides of the bracket.

The championship game begins at 2:30 Sunday afternoon.

Last year's champs hailed from Section 1 and were coached by Nate Haskins and Brooks Lockwood.

the food and beverage tent

For those who have never been to the Senior Class Tournament, you will find that you will be spending a lot of time outside the rink taking in the ambiance of the Food and Beverage Tent.

Not only can you chow down and drink beverages of your choice for the cost of a $25 wristband (good all weekend), but you can mingle with parents, coaches, and other fans. It is a great opportunity to talk hockey with different folks from around the state.

The tent is run by volunteers from the Waupun area, who are just as likely to dish up the BS as they are to dish up a burger or brat.

It's a  great time--make sure you buy a wristband at the admissions desk and enjoy the camaraderie.

al welling memorial scholarship

Each year during the SCT, a deserving student-athlete is chosen to receive the Al Welling Scholarship.

Al Welling was inducted into the WI Hockey Hall of Fame back in September 2008 for his contributions to Hockey as an Official.

The Welling Scholarship Committe will again be awarding a $1,500 scholarship to a Hockey playing High School Senior in memory of Al.

This will go towards their 1st year's college tuition. The Scholarship will be presented at the Senior Class tournament.

Applications need to be post marked no later than March 10th, 2013.

Last year's winner was Carl Beglinger of Madison Edgewood.
