ONALASKA — There was no “on” switch and no inspirational speech or enlightening moment. Brady Welvaert, however, has arrived in a big way.
The senior goaltender for the Aquinas co-op boys hockey team has emerged over the past month to become one of the hottest players at his position for one of the hottest teams in the area.
There’s no real explanation for Welvaert’s recent dominance in the crease, but he’s starting to settle into a groove, and opponents are still searching for a way to knock him out of it.
Good luck.
“When you make that first save, you’re kind of set for the rest of the game,” said Welvaert, who is 8-1 and has a 1.02 goals against average (GAA) since Dec. 6.
“Big saves help the team.”
