Mackenzie Torpy Solid In Net In 27 Save Shutout

The MSO Icebergs and Rock County Fury clashed in a Badger Conference matchup Thursday night in Janesville looking to hopefully gain ground in the conference.

The Icebergs used some timely scoring and a stellar 27 save effort by Mackenzie Torpy to grind out a 3-0 victory. The scoring got started just over 3 minutes in as Casey Marsh's shot off a rebound put the Icebergs up 1-0 early, and it stayed that way after the first period besides being outshot 9-3 in the opening frame.

Rock County had a chance to tie and maybe get a lead in the second when the Icebergs were whistled for a pair of penalties. The Fury had a 5 on 3 power play for 1:28. " I just made sure I had good angles", said Torpy.

   " I felt comfortable tonight ".

"We practice our penalty kill alot and it showed tonight", said Head Coach Mike Jochmann. "That was a major turning point in the game". shortly afterwards the Icebergs had a long sequence in the Fury zone and won a scramble in front as Rachel Dvorak poked home a loose puck for a 2-0 lead. The Icebergs  tallied late again in the second period on a short handed goal. Shanda Roeming stole the puck in her own zone out by the blue line and raced down the slot and got the puck just underneath the crossbar behind Fury goalie Mollie Gross (15 saves). So 3-0 after 2 periods.

More than enough for Torpy on this night.

"She was solid tonight", said Jochmann. The Icebergs record now sits as 10-7-1, 4-2 and in second place in the Badger Conference. rock County is now 2-4-1 in conference and 2-12-2 overall
