Notre Dame Academy vs. Superior

The 3rd game of the day featured the #1 rated Notre Dame Acadamy vs the Superior Spartans .The Spartans had fallen to the Tritons in November 10-3 but the young squad is starting to develope some chemistry and this rematch would be a good test as to how far they've come since then. The Tritons featuring several D1 caliber players came out hard taking the body and putting Superior on their heels for the 1st half of the period. Their aggressivness however led to the only 2 penalties of the period and allowed the Spartans to find their legs. The action was back and forth with the period ending in a scoreless tie. Shots were even at 8 apiece.

The Tritons were more determined in their attack in the second period,  Will Pavek jumped on a loose puck at the top of the left circle came down the slot and wristed a shot low stick side after Spartan netminder Paxton Paine gave up the post in an attempt to stay square with the shot. That goal came just 11 seconds into the frame. Notre Dame would tally again at 3:23 on a Jason Reynolds backhander from the top of the crease. Steven Phillips and Tony Stillwell assisted. Late in the period Phillips tallied Pavek assisting at 15:48 for a 3-0 Triton lead. They also led in shots 20-19 after 2 periods in the books.

The third was scoreless and with the victory the Tritons move on to face host Duluth Marshall at 3:15 pm.

Marshall advanced with a 9-0 win over Appleton United who will face Superior at 1:00 pm for the 3rd place title. Photos of game action are posted in the photo section.
