Madison Edgewood falls to host Duluth Marshall

Notre Dame 2, Mankato West 1

Notre Dame took  an early 1-0 advantage, scoring off a scrum on the Mankato West net. Mason Appleton put the puck in the net, with helpers going to Brett Gruber and Grant Kluesner. For the period Notre Dame outshot Mankato 12-5.

Mankato had some very good puckhandling defensemen and they were content to lay back trap and create offense from turnovers. They were able to cash in at 12:00 of the 2nd getting a put back goal from in deep on a puck that Notre Dame wasn't able to clear. The period ended with the score knotted at 1 each. Shots for the game at that point were Notre Dame 29 Mankato 12.

The 3rd period saw both teams pick up the tempo. Mankato was more effective at keeping Notre Dame outside allowing their tender to see the shots and not giving the Acadamy open lanes to the rebounds. As the period wore on Notre Dame started to pinch a little tighter and were able to sustain a solid forecheck resulting in the game winning goal at 14:39. Cycling the puck down low the Tritons got Mankato chasing the puck and left Will Pavek alone on the doorstep to put back a blast from the right point. Assists went to Tony Stillwell and Luke Davison. Mankato pulled their tender late but couldn't get the equalizer. Notre Dame moves on to play Superior, a 4-3 winner over Delano, at 5:45 Friday. Game pics in the photo section from the 3 late games.
