The WSFLG girls pulled out a good win Saturday night against Chippewa Falls 6 to 3. Hope Tucker played a great game making 31 saves in the game.

The first period the Blizzard got on the board first when Wendy Roberts scored with Kassie Lien and Sam O’Brien having the helpers. The Cardinals evened the score up 5 minutes later but then the Blizzard poured it on.

First an unassisted goal by Roberts then Lien hit the net on a nice pass from Taylor Heathman to end the period.

The Cardinals got it within one in the 2nd period but again the Blizzard ramped it up. Roberts scored assisted by Ashley Dietmier and in the third period Paige Johnson rifled one in on a pass from Lien. The Cardinals snuck a short handed goal in but was answered by a Blizzard Goal. Wendy Roberts scored her 4th goal to end the game.

Coaches quotes:
“The Blizzard Varsity Girls skated 2 hard periods to defeat the visiting Chippewa Falls Cardinals.  I felt the girls did a good job in the first period of establishing the pace of the game and getting the puck deep in to the Chippewa zone to create scoring opportunities.  We were able to get the lead and keep the pressure on the Cardinals.  Hope Tucker had a great night in the net and continued to grow stronger with her confidence and play as the game went on.”

“In the second period the Blizzard Girls remembered to make use of their defenseman at the points as the forwards worked to get the puck up to the Blue liners to create some scoring opportunities.  Chippewa Falls found themselves in the penalty box a few more times and the Blizzard made them pay.”

“In the 3rd period the Blizzard Girls controlled the puck and after 1 solid rush that created some panic for our girls, they settled down and finished the game out leaving Chippewa frustrated.”

“Hope Tucker's outstanding play in the net was a key and will be needed as the girls continue to challenge top level teams that may have seemed previously out of reach.  It was great to see the girls play 3 periods of hockey against a quality team.” Mike Alderman
