The Whitefish Bay-Nicolet-Shorewood (WNS) Storm defeated the visiting Beloit Memorial Knights 6-0 on Saturday with balanced scoring and a stifling defense.
WNS goaltender Sean Leahy recorded his second straight shutout and the Storm limited the Knights to 16 shots on goal. Beloit goaltender Ashton Walker faced a barrage of 50 shots during the contest.
Drew Kneisel's rebound goal 4:28 into the first period turned out to be the game-winner. The power play tally came after Walker's save on a blast from defenseman Colin Downing that had been redirected by forward Oskar Bjornstad.
Downing and Bjornstad would contribute later in the period on a re-direct goal by forward Nick Sullivan.
WNS extended the lead to 3-0 early in the second period on a twisting shot by Bjornstad.
Later in the mid-frame, Kniesel found forward Djordje Torbica streaking up the middle and fed him a perfect pass. Torbica was able to split the D, break in alone, and his snap shot past the blocker made the score 4-0 after two.
Both third period goals came on Storm power plays. Torbica would corral a shot by defenseman Andy Keith and feed senior forward Andy Krugler in the slot for a one-timer. Kneisel capped the scoring by walking in from the corner and flipping a backhander that eluded the Knight goalie.
