Knutson scores four in easy victory

The third-ranked Onalaska Hilltoppers took half a period to get started in the Wisconsin Prep Hockey Game of the Week match-up, but once they did, things quickly went south for the guest Point-Rapids as Onalaska put a dozen goals on the scoreboard for a 12-0 decision Tuesday evening at the Omni Center.

Red Panthers goalie Emily Bubla continued her stellar play early in the first, stopping the first ten shots fired at her before Onalaska was able to tally in the opening period.

As often happens in a Hilltoppers game, the goals came in bunches and this contest was no exception. Baylee Darling scored on a rebound to open the scoring at 10:17, soon followed by Theresa Knutson's first goal at 14:05 to make it 2-0.

Mariah Nichols scored on a nice pass from Knutson at 15:33 to close out the scoring in the period as the Hilltoppers held a 21-3 shot margin in the period.

It took just over six minutes for the Hilltoppers to send the game to 'run time,' scoring a trio of goals in the first 6:19 of the second stanza.

Jacyn Reeves--still slightly weak from a weekend illness--scored from the slot at 4:11 to make the score 4-0.

Knutson, the state goal scoring leader with 29, went on a rampage and scored a natural HT in just over four minutes, sending Bubla to the bench and making the score 7-0 with seven minutes left.

Point-Rapids goalie Taylor Stuettgen didn't have much better luck as Onalaska scored three goals on four shots against the freshman netminder.

While on the penalty kill, Jamie Weilandt scored from the right circle at 11:57 for the shorty. Just under three minutes later, Chazlynn Anderson scored for a 9-0 lead.

It looked like that would be the final tally for the period, but when Molly Coughlin's dump-in on net took a funny hop past Stuettgen's stick and into the net at 16:57, the score became 10-0. Shots were even at 11 in the period.

Bubla came out to finish the game in the third, but saw similar results as Weilandt scored her second goal at 1:40 and Anderson did likewise at 8:29 to mercifully end the scoring. The pace of the game slowed and Onalaska held a slight 4-3 shot edge in the period.

Jeanalyn Schindler stopped 16 shots en route to the win and her second consecutive shutout. Bubla (23) and Stuettgen (1) combined for two dozen saves in the one-sided contest.

The Hilltoppers improve to 8-2 and host the MSOE Icebergs on Friday, while the Red Panthers (3-2, 2-0 GNC) travel to Marshfield Friday for a Great Northern showdown.
