Tucker stops 31 in close 3-2 loss

Thursday night the Blizzard Girls hosted the CIMPC (Cambridge/Isanti co-op) at Grantsburg Hockey Arena. This was the first home game of the year and it was a close one.

Cambridge/Isanti got on the board first with a goal past the halfway mark in the first period. The Blizzard tied it up just before the period ended on a goal from Kassie Lien assisted by Wendy Roberts.

The second period was back and forth but Cambridge/Isanti) would put in the lone goal of the period on a power play.

In the third period the Blizzard tied the game when Wendy Roberts hit the net assisted by Ashley Dietmier. But the Blizzard could not hold off the Cambridge/Isanti rush and found themselves behind 3-2 at the buzzer. Hope Tucker had 31 saves.

COMMENTS FROM COACH BILL CORDELL

We had some great chances throughout the game, hitting the post hard in the first and then having the puck going slowly through the crease in the third and just not able to tap it into the net. In the second period penalties got us out of our rhythm. We pushed our players during the shorthanded situations and we got a little tired.

The coaches saw some great things out of this game. Our coaching team implemented some new strategies to our game; fore checking and our power play were changed the most. In just three practices we saw the girls applying the changes we made and we had some good scoring opportunities from them. Our goalie Hope Tucker made a couple of key saves in the third period to keep the game within reach right to the end.
