Icebergs Battle Back Late

The Badger Thunder have made a habit of keeping games close, but haven't had the puck break their way late in the game.

The Badger Thunder took the early lead 27 seconds into the game, when Spencer Natzke put the puck into the back of the net.  The Icebergs kept battling and tried to apply pressure.  However, it entailed killing off a penalty as Katie Glover was called for elbowing with 10:36 left in the first period.  The Thunder were unable to capitalize on the opportunity and the first period ended with the Thunder leading 1-0.  Mackenzie Torpy had 7 saves for the Icebergs, while Jamie Dutton had 6 for the Badger Thunder.

The second period found both teams having to kill off one penalty.  Kristen South (Badger Thunder) was called for tripping with 7:17 left in the second.  The Iceberg's Katie Glover was called for interference with 2:58 left in the period.  Neither team was able to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the score remained 1-0 for the Thunder.  Dutton collected 11 saves, while Torpy had 5 saves for the Icebergs.

Early in the second period, coincidental roughing penalties were called.  The Thunder were called for tripping with 4:17 left in the third and the Icebergs went on the power play.  Shanda Roeming tied the game with a power play goal at 13:57 of the third with Casey Marsh assisting on the play.  The Icebergs were called for a penalty with 1:02 left in regulation, but the Thunder were not able to capitalize.  Regulation play came to an end with the game tied at 1.  Torpy stopped the puck 7 times in the period, while Dutton kept 12 shots from going into the net.

The Thunder tried to put the game away quickly in overtime, while they were still on the power play.  However, the Iceberg defense would not allow any good shots.  Both teams kept moving the puck up and down the ice.  It was late into overtime, when Shanda Roeming picked up a loose puck and slid it past Jamie Dutton for the 2-1 win with 1:21 remaining in overtime.
