Seasoned Players Put Hayward in the Hunt

Hayward will have a new head coach, but a familiar coach as Scott Turnbull takes the reins of a talented group.  Coach Turnbull has been an assistant coach with the girls high school program, since their inception.

In corresponding with Coach Turnbull, he foresees a tough sectional with the Fusion, Hayward and the ECA Stars battling for the top seed.  However, he states the Chippewa Falls and the WSFLGUS Blizzard will be right in the mix.

Hayward returns 3 of their top 4 scorers, including  Holly Turnbull who led the team in points last season.  Aly Tremblay and Cheyenne Turnbull are the other players which figured in the top four scorers from last season.  Holly and Aly are sophomores, while Cheyenne is a junior.  Another added boost to the team will be the return of their team captain, Meredith Ingbretson.  Ingbretson was lost in the third game of the season due to an ACL injury and surgery.  She is back at 100% and expected to be a huge contributer this season.

Holly Turnbull led the Hurricanes in scoring with a school record 57 points and led all the defensemen in the state in scoring as a freshman last year.  Holly is currently on the radar of multiple Division I teams and has been asked to verbal by two of them.  At this point, she has not committed and does not plan to committ until she is positive of where she wants to play. Aly Tremblay set a school record with 31 goals last season .  She hopes to improve on that mark this season.

Coach Turnbull states, "We will be a very talented team, however, we will be a young team.  We have a great balance of upper classmen, leadership and ability, along with youthful talent.  Our strength will be in our strong defensive play, but more importantly our team depth and ability to run 3 solid lines, while also developing a fourth line.  Though we are a young team, they are mature and very experienced.  Our hard fought playoff season and trip to the state tournament helped greatly in the maturity and growth.  Earning a trip to the state tournament was a great eye opener for many of the girls as to what it takes to get there and succeed and ultimately has inspired them to return.

We will be strong, but in no means would I say we are the team to beat.  We play a strong schedule and a lot of Minnesota teams, which really allows us to play at a fast and physical pace.  Ultimately, I believe, it prepares us for the grueling home stretch and playoffs."
