Section 1 scores five in final period to run away with win

Section One started fast and finished faster on the way to a 10-5 drubbing of Section Three in Saturday night's final contest at the SCT in Waupun.

Although it took over eleven minutes for the scoreboard to light up with a goal, S1 scored a trio of them in just over five minutes. Max Skatrud, Nolan Holcombe, and Anthony Dietmeier scored to give One a 3-0 lead. S1 almost doubled up in shots, holding a 19-10 edge in the period.

Holcombe scored a power play goal at 3:50 of the second for a 4-0 lead for S1.

Not to be outdone, Section Three rallied for two goals to cut the lead in half.

Max Seiter and Jared Sprink scored in the middle of the period for S3 to make it a 4-2 game.

Dietmeier scored his second late in the period to give S1 a 5-2 lead they would carry to the locker room. Shots were 14-12 in favor of S3.

Drew Otto scored just over a minute into the third to increase the lead to 6-2, and then Skatrud scored three minutes later to make it a 7-2 game.

Wausau West teammates Kyle Lee and Tom Kilgore scored 72 seconds apart for S3 to cut the lead to 7-4 midway through the period.

Lee scored again with five minutes remaining to chop the lead to 7-5, but that is as close as S3 would get.

In a three minute span late, Kyle Montgomery, Holcombe, and Nate Jones scored to account for the 10-5 final.

S1 outshot S3 in the period, 17-13.

Thomas Labatt (18) and Jacob Hilby (14) combined for 32 saves in the win, while Anthony Lashua (20) and Jared Enkers (18) ended with 38 for Section Three.
