Section Five wins in shootout after scoreless OT period

After 62 minutes, the score differential was the same as it had been at the beginning of the game--zero.

Section Five prevailed in the shootout period and took home a 7-6 win over Section Seven in SCT action Saturday night in Waupun.

It looked like S5 was going to run away with this one, as they scored three goals in the first 5 1/2 minutes of play. Payton Trammel, Carson Buksnes, and Craig Malcolm all scored early in the first to give S5 a 3-0 lead with over 12 minutes left to play.

Section Seven got goals from Joe Llaurado and Brett Lessner in a span of 27 seconds late in the period to cut the lead to 3-2.

Shots in the period favored Section Seven (14-8).

S7 tied the contest just 21 seconds into the middle period when Llaurado notched his second goal.

Midway through the period, Ben Spilchen scored to give Section Five a 4-3 lead, but that would last only 60 seconds.

Llaurado completed his hat trick at 7:56 to make it 4-4.

Kyle Hoffman scored on the power play at 13:08 to give S7 a one-goal lead, but just over a minute later, Jay Routheau knotted the game at five for S5 with his short-handed goal.

With under a minute to play, Jack Culp scored for S7 and they would take a 6-5 lead into the second break, with shots in favor of S7 (20-7).

It looked like Section Seven was going to eke out a victory, but with just 1:24 left in the third period, Buksnes scored to tie the game at six.

Shots were nearly even, with S7 holding a slim 14-13 lead.

The overtime period saw three PP opportunities (two for S7 and one for S5), but both team's PK units were up to the task and kept the puck out of the net.

Spilchen was credited with the game-winner in the shootout.

Jon Krueger (20) and Nate Eminger (27) stopped 47 shots in the win, while Noah White (9) and Christian Rasmussen (16) totaled 25 saves for Section 7.
