Onalaska Moves to Sectional Finals

Onalaska kept their season rolling along and advanced to the sectional final with a win over the Icebergs in the sectional three semifinals

The Hilltoppers took the early lead, when senior defenseman Jayda Hoerres scored with an assist from Jacyn Reeves at 1:42 of the first period.  Stoughton wasn’t going to back down and managed to tie the game with 11:35 remaining in the first period.  Shanda Roeming put the puck into the back of the net with Elizabeth Strassman collecting the assist.  Onalaska took the lead for good at the 11:32 mark on a goal by Baylee Darling with Molly Coughlin assisting on the power play goal.

The second period only had one goal and that was by Onalaska’s Theresa Knutson assisted by Melinda Kunes at 10:27 of the period.  The third period saw Knutson score her second goal of the evening with Ellie Meyer assisting on the play.  The Hilltoppers took a 5-1 lead as Jamie Weilandt passed the puck to Lucy Anderholm and Anerholm put it into the net at the 7:52 mark.  Elizabeth Strassman brought the Icebergs within three with an assist from Emily Auby with 0:46 seconds left in the game.

Jeanalyn Schindler finished the game with 20 saves for the Hilltoppers, while Kenzie Torpy had 34 saves for the Icebergs.
