A scheduling issue turned the DC Everest Holiday Tournament into a two-game roadtrip for the Amery Warriors. The Warriors ran into a road block in the first game of the trip in the form of the Sheboygan Red Raiders and the Red Raiders rode a 5 minute outburst in the second period to a 5-3 win Monday night at Greenheck-Turner Community Center at DC Everest Senior High School.

Sheboygan got on the board early after a cross checking penalty on Amery's Levi Tylee just 1:05 into the game. The Warriors got a good look short handed on the penalty kill but Raider goalie Will Hollingsworth made a nice glove save to end the attempty. Sheboygan took the puck the length of the ice on the ensuing faceoff. Caden Decker carried around the net, hit Connor Sondalle at the blue line, and he fired on net where Jodan Hanke tipped it in for the early 1-0 lead.

Amery answered back about five minutes later. Decker was for tripping in the Amery zone, and the Warriors capalized just 11 seconds into the power play. Jacob Maxon held in a Sheboygan clearing attempt and got the puck down to Logan Doten on the hashmarks by the boards, and Doten fired across the ice to Elliot Greene who scored from the other side to tie the game at one.

The Red Raiders however controlled most of the rest of the first period, outshooting the warriors 13-5 in the frame, and leaving Carter Meyer to keep things close for Amery.

After delaying the start of the second period for a few minutes waiting for the ice to set up (they could have waited a little longer), the Warriors capitalized quickly. Doten won a faceoff back to Greene in the Amery end. Greene threw the puck around the boards behind the net where he found Leo Jensen. Jensen corralled the puck and fired it to Maxon streaking through center ice. Maxon skated in and scored from the nearside faceoff circle to give the Warriors a 2-1 lead just 1:52 into the second period.

Sheboygan answered back quickly however. Sondalle picked up a misshandled outlet pass by the Warriors and had a free pass to the net where he roofed one to bring the game back to even at 2-2 just 3:57 into the second.

Just before the midway mark of the period Ethan Wilke blocked a Warrior shot and hits a streaking Karsen Burdick for a breakaway. Burdick didn't miss and put Sheboygan up 3-2.

They increased the lead just 17 seconds later. Hanke disrupted a Warrior breakout and tipped the puck to Carson Thomas near the boards. Thomas hit Sondalle in front where he roofed it over Meyer to make it 4-2 Sheboygan.

Two minutes later the Warrior's Evan Schultz took a major for head contact, and the penalty seemed to wake up the Warriors, who controlled most of the rest of the second period, even with the major penalty kill. Eventually, with time winding down in the period, the Warriors cracked Hollingsworth again. On the power play Maxon hit Greene at the point. Green walked in, made a spin move and back-handed the puck at the net where it hit a Red Raider defenseman's skate and bounced it to make it 4-3.

The Warriors actually outshot the Red Raiders 14-10 in the second period.

The third period was all Sheboygan however. The Red Raiders outshot Amery 13-5, and added their fifth goal (this one from Thomas) at the 3:20 mark to make it 5-3.  Amery made a furious charge with 1:57 of time with the goalie pulled to end the game, but they weren't able to crack the net and the Red Raiders held on for their 5-3 win.

Carter Meyer stopped 31 of 36 in the loss for the Warriors. Will Hollingsworth stopped 21 of 24 in the win for the Red Raiders. With the tournament schedule broken, Amery will play DC Everest at 3pm today.
