WAUPUN - It’s hard to believe that we are almost turning the page on 2025 and moving to 2026 and the Fox Cities Stars (8-0) have yet to lose a game this season. This is coming after a strong finish to their 2024-25 campaign as whatever started clicking back then is certainly clicking now. Looking to remain unbeaten, the Stars hit the road on Tuesday for a Badgerland Conference tilt as the Waupun Warriors (2-4) were waiting.

Record aside, the Warriors are more than capable of springing an upset here and there as they have shown the ability to compete with some of the better teams in the area. Fox Cities took that to heart and more as they struck for six goals in the first two periods, including a four-goal second period to double up the Warriors 6-3. Any time you get that type of consistent offensive production, it does make things easier on your goalie as Elliott Reichenbacher stopped 17 of the 20 shots he faced.

Quick starts have been one of the many themes for the Stars all season, and this game was no different with Mason Weyers putting one past Benton Nagle at the 1:41 mark to put the Stars on top early 1-0. They would never look back as this was once again another game where they led wire to wire with Xander Harron tacking on their second goal of the game with under four minutes to go in the first as Fox Cities held a 2-0 lead after one.

It was in the second when the action really picked up and it was the Warriors that started all of that. Less than one minute into the period, it was the Warriors pulling within 2-1 as Jacob Hopp found an opening on the Power Play and took care of the rest, beating Reichenbacher to make this a game. That was the goal that seemed to awaken the Stars once again as a Preston McGinnis goal less than two minutes later not only made things 3-1, but sparked what was four unanswered goals by the Stars to take what looked to be a competitive game and break it wide open.

Blayke Adamovich and Kellan Murphy got in on the fun just 14 seconds apart to push the Stars lead to 5-1 less than eight minutes into the second as Nagle and the Warriors defense had no answers for the Stars potent attack. Less than three minutes after making things 5-1, it was the Stars finding the back of the net yet again with Andrew Ostermann making it four consecutive goals for the Stars as their lead suddenly grew to 6-1.

That was it when it came to their offense as Nagle settled in to make plenty of good saves over the final period plus while trying to keep his team in the game. His stats may not show it, but Nagle came up huge for the Warriors and you could see their confidence grow as the game went on with Camden Flegner putting an end to the Stars scoring barrage with 13 seconds remaining in the period to pull within 6-2 after two.

Waupun continued to chip away at the lead in the third as they had to make the most of the chances they were given. Flegner did make the most of those chances, connecting for his second goal of the game midway through the third as the Warriors were within 6-3 only to fall by that score in the end.

With one goal and two assists, McGinnis led the Stars with three points and now has 10 points on the season with most coming over his past three. Fox Cities will now face arguably their toughest test of the season as they welcome fellow unbeaten De Pere (5-0-1) to the Champions Center on Friday before getting some time off for Christmas.
