Brookfield’s Shutdown D

The Brookfield Stars have made two consecutive trips to WIAA State. Jack Templeton was a key player on each team. In the 2024 WIAA D-1 State semifinal game versus Chippewa Falls, Templeton scored the game’s first goal by blasting a shot top-shelf. In the final seconds of the third period Templeton tipped in the tying goal. Brookfield then scored in OT to win one of the most thrilling comebacks in state tournament history.

This season 6 feet 4 inches tall and 205-pound senior defenseman Jack Templeton adds team captain to his responsibilities. In addition to being big and strong, Templeton is a smart decision-maker with the puck, and he leads the Stars for all special teams.

“Jack is a four-year varsity player, excelling at forward and defense, compiling over 125 career points. After earning All-State Honorable Mention as a center his sophomore season, he transitioned full time to defense last season. He became one of the top blue liners in the state, earning 2nd Team All State. Jack plays every key situation, defending against top lines, driving possession, and leading our power play. His versatility, hockey IQ, and compete-level separate him from other top players. Jack is an excellent student, a respected leader, and serves as our captain this year. He is without question among the top all-around defensemen in Wisconsin!” Greg Copeland, head coach, Brookfield Stars

“Jack is a natural defenseman with his size and vision. He has the ability to shut opponents down. Jack has a big upside!” Dean Lounsbrough, coach, Windigo NAPHL 18

Let’s hear from Jack Templeton!

Congratulations on being named captain. Thank you!

Is your role different this season as captain? Yes. As a younger team I show the players what to do, and lead by example, because I know what it takes to get where we want to go.

When did you start playing hockey? About 5 or 6. Playing in the backyard with my brother.

Where did you play youth hockey? Elmbrook Eagles.

Did anyone in your family play hockey? My older brother played at Brookfield.

What other sports do you play? I play baseball for the high school team.

Do you have any siblings? A brother and older sister.

How was the experience representing Wisconsin in the NIT? It was a great time. Being surrounded by players from all around the state. There were a lot of scouts at it. Everyone had great skill. The competition was the best I have played.

What was it like playing in two consecutive WIAA state tournaments? It was amazing. It was everything I thought it was. Waking up and eating breakfast with my teammates, the student section and all the fans were excited.

Is the OT win over Chippewa Falls in 2024 State the most exciting game you have played in? A million percent! I look back at that game and smile. It was great.

Pregame ritual? Sewer ball with teammates, then put my headphones on and get dialed in.

Hockey skills that separate you from the competition? I am a very smart player. I play a 200-foot game. I can be put anywhere and perform well.

Is there an NHL player you model your game after? I definitely look up to Sydney Crosby, but I don’t necessarily model my game after any individual player.

Who is the most influential person in your life? My mom. She is such a hard worker. Her effort is encouraging.

Your plan for hockey after high school? I want to play juniors.

If you don’t go to juniors, where will you go to school? UW Madison.

What do you want to do for a career? Mechanical engineer. Both of my parents are engineers. I really like math.

What do you enjoy doing in addition to hockey? I love wakeboarding, golfing, and snowboarding. Playing fortnite with friends and teammates.

Where do you go snowboarding? Alpine or Little Switz.

Where’s your dream vacation? Cayman Islands.

Favorite food? Vodka Pasta.

Favorite restaurant for Vodka Pasta? Maggiano’s Little Italy in Mayfair Mall.

Favorite music group or type of music? Country. Morgan Wallen.

Chocolate cake, brownie, or apple pie? Chocolate cake.

Pickup truck or sports car? Sports car. Ferrari.

If you could meet anyone, who would you want to meet? Wayne Gretzky

What would you ask Wayne Gretzky? What it took to accomplish everything he did.

Final thoughts? I want to thank my mom and dad for all the support, all my coaches, my Stars coaches, and Cal Roadhouse. All my coaches have always had my best interests, and they helped me get to where I am today. I want to thank all my teammates for their support and for pushing me to be my best.

Best wishes to Jack Templeton and the Brookfield Stars!

Yours for hockey, Matt Carey
