The Beloit Purple Knights in their Regional Semi game trailed 4-3 after 2 periods to Catholic Memorial/Pius.

Then the Knights found their scoring touch in the third period and breezed to a 9-5 win.

Consistency was missing from Beloit's game and it showed early on in this back and forth affair as Sam Chapin scored for CMP on a shot that Beloit goalie Christian Rasmussen stopped, but the puck jumped over his blade and snuck five hole for a early 1-0 lead.

But Beloit's Kolton Hatch was able to score short handed  to make for an even game at 1 after period 1.

Shots were favoring CMP 14-5 after the period .

Sam Chapin scored his second goal of his hat trick early in the second period. He beat Rasmussen low right corner for a 2-1 lead. Beloit got the goal right back as TJ Polglaze scored on a 2-1 break for the tie.

Nate Gentile put CMP back in front again, but Beloit answered again with Hatch scoring his second for a 3-3 tie with 5:00 left in the second period. But Gentile scored again on a 2-1 rush for the 4-3 lead thru 34 minutes.

Gonna be a tight game to the end ?

Not hardly.

In the first minute of the final period Beloit got it tied up on a score from Brady Thiering. Then with the faceoff at center ice, Beloit won the draw to Thiering who raced into the zone and ripped one by CMP goalie Colin Nierzwicki for Beloit's lead for good.

Two goals in six seconds. The rout was started...

Hatch finished his hat trick in the period and shortly after that sophomore Patrick Whalen wrist shot one in for a 7-4 Beloit lead.

CMP did come back on a power play goal by Chapin with 5:07 left for a 7-5 game. CMP could not get any closer as they committed a couple penalties which Beloit scored another goal by Ben Kreager, and the final one by Whalen.

Beloit now moves on to play top seed KMMO Friday night at Nagawaukee Ice Arena.

Game notes. While Rasmussen stopped 14 shots in the first period, he made only 6 more the rest of the way for 20 saves total, while Colin Nierzwicki stopped 24, including 12 in the third period. Beloit outshot CMP 18-4 in the third period. Beloit's Trey Caple had 4 assists in the win. CMP ends their season with a 3-19 record, while Beloit moves up to 8-15-1
