In a high noon showdown on Saturday, Wisconsin Seniors in their Badger red jerseys face Michigan Seniors in their Wolverine blue jerseys. Each team has a 1-1 record and is fighting for 2nd place in Pool B.

Seven minutes into the first period Michigan scored a shorthanded goal to take a 1-0 lead. For the remainder of the period there was no love exchange between these two teams. This is a physical game. The first period ended with Michigan up 1-0 and holding an 11 to 5 advantage in shots.

Wisconsin’s Carter Drexler had a great opportunity to score only a minute into the second period. Drexler caught a pass from Landyn Randt, split the Michigan D, brought the puck to his backhand and just missed the net.

Adam Sexton tied the game 1-1 with a power play goal three minutes into the second period. Sexton’s goal was assisted by Notre Dame Academy’s Drew Heil and St. Mary’s Springs Austin Westergaard.

Sexton’s goal was a momentum changer. Ninety seconds later Brookfield’s Connor Hillig used elite speed to get to the net and scored to give Wisconsin a 2-1 lead. Hillig’s goal was assisted by Middleton’s Wyatt Ehrhardt.

The second period ended with Wisconsin leading 2-1. Michigan had a 20-19 advantage in shots.

The third period started with Gabe Braun in the penalty box. Michigan had scoring opportunities, but Spencer Shober denied the blue jersey shooters. One minute after killing the penalty, Connor Hillig was deep in Michigan’s zone, and he passed the puck to Wyatt Ehrhardt in front of the net. Ehrhardt scored a spectacular goal off his backhand to expand Wisconsin’s lead to 3-1.

Michigan pulled their goalie for an extra attacker with just under two minutes remaining in the game. With a minute remaining Easton Lindert scored an empty net goal with assist to Gabe Pankratz to give Wisconsin a 4-1 lead.

Wisconsin Seniors beat Michigan Seniors 4-1. Spencer Shober looked fantastic. He was the difference for Wisconsin in the third period. With the win, Wisconsin Seniors finish second in Pool B and play Wisconsin U18 at 10:30AM on Sunday, April 27.
