In game two at the NIT, it was the bright jersey game. Wisconsin Seniors in their red jerseys face Colorado in deer hunting orange jerseys. Colorado lost to Michigan Seniors late last night. Wisconsin is looking to rebound from a disappointing loss to Minnesota Juniors.

The first period started with Fond du Lac’s Spencer Shober in goal for Wisconsin. From the initial drop of the puck, Wisconsin looks like the better team. They are bigger, stronger, faster, and pass the puck better than Colorado.

Wisconsin took a 1-0 lead with 7:30 remaining in the first period when St. Mary’s Springs’ Gabe Braun ripped a shot past the diminutive Colorado goalie. Braun’s power play goal was assisted by his St. Mary’s Springs teammate Austin Westergaard and Calvin Zinda from Neenah/Hortonville/Menasha.

Gabe Braun scored his second goal of the game with 3:21 remaining in the first period to increase Wisconsin’s lead to 2-0. Braun’s second goal was assisted by Austin Westergaard and Brookfield’s Adam Sexton. The first period ended with Wisconsin up 2-0 and having an 18-6 shot advantage.

In the second period Wisconsin continued to control the play with better puck movement and scoring opportunities. The tiny Colorado goalie was under duress from the drop of the puck. Wisconsin finally got a puck past Colorado’s goalie when SPASH’s Jackson Schroeder caught a stretch pass from Middleton’s Eli Covey and scored to make it 3-0. Wisconsin increased its lead to 4-0 when Brookfield’s Connor Hillig scored with assists to Middleton’s Wyatt Ehrhardt and Tomahawk’s Austin Lamer. The third period ended with Wisconsin leading 4-0 and with a 30-11 shot advantage.

Two minutes into the third period Austin Westergaard chased down a loose puck in Colorado’s D zone and made a beautiful backhand pass to Adam Sexton. Sexton caught Westergaard’s pass and blasted the puck past the Colorado goalie to increase Wisconsin’s lead to 5-0.

A few minutes later Wisconsin scored two goals in a span of twenty seconds. Oregon’s Easton Lindert scored to increase Wisconsin’s lead to 6-0. Lindert’s goal was assisted by Eau Claire Memorial’s Gabe Pankratz and New Richmond’s Steven Chapman. Gabe Pankratz extended the lead to 7-0 when he scored with an assist from Calvin Zinda.

Wisconsin defeated Colorado 7-0 and improved their record to 1-1. Spencer Shober of Fond du Lac stopped all 14 shots. Wisconsin peppered Colorado’s goalie with 44 shots.

Wisconsin Seniors play Michigan Seniors Saturday, April 26 at 12:15PM.
