The 2024-25 Girls season produced a bumper crop of talented freshmen that will be a joy to watch over the next three years. Hopefully no one will wander off to what appears to be greener pastures. Keeping these players home and playing high school hockey is a key to the growth of WIAA girl’s hockey.
Two of the players on my list were also recognized on the GWHCA All-State Team, Avery Lindstrom (2nd Team) and Kennedy Kohlman (Honorable Mention). Both had fantastic first years and were key contributors to their teams successful seasons. Lindstrom was second in scoring among freshmen with forty-one points and Kohlman won seventeen games, second only to state champion goaltender Reese Spiering with twenty-three. Kohlman led the Warbirds to a 19-7 record and the sectional final.
Eight of those listed below were also named to their respective All-Conference teams. Rhodes, led all freshmen in scoring with forty-three points, including thirty goals, was named Co-Player of the Year in the Badger Conference. Five players, Loeffelholz, Buchan, Zunker, Flohr and Simonson all made the trip to the state tournament in their first season.
This team was picked by me and there was no voting done by any coaches. It is my observations over the season and discussions with coaches and brilliant hockey minds. There are no plaques or certificates, just some recognition for a great new class of female hockey players that we get to enjoy watching play for three more years. Here are the picks for my All-Freshman Team.
