The 4th Annual Bill McGann Tournament showcased some of the best high school hockey action of the season, with the Brookfield Stars and Somerset Spartans making impressive runs to the championship game. Both teams demonstrated grit, skill, and teamwork throughout the weekend, culminating in an intense final matchup that required overtime to decide the winner.

Thursday, December 26: Quarterfinals
Somerset Spartans 2, North Shore 1
The Spartans kicked off the tournament with a close 2-1 victory over North Shore. Key to the win was Carson Belisle, who delivered a stellar performance in net, stopping 17 of 18 shots for a .944 save percentage. Somerset’s defensive effort and timely offense secured their advancement to the semifinals.
Brookfield Stars 5, Hopkins MN 2
Brookfield opened their tournament with a commanding 5-2 win over Hopkins. Forward Cooper Simon was the standout, recording 4 points (3 goals and 1 assist), while goaltender Brady Ferrell kept Hopkins at bay with 27 saves on 29 shots, good for a .931 save percentage.

Friday, December 27: Semifinals
Somerset Spartans 2, Osseo 0
Somerset punched their ticket to the finals with a hard-fought 2-0 shutout over Osseo. Once again, goaltender Carson Belisle was exceptional, making 33 saves to preserve the shutout. Somerset’s ability to withstand Osseo’s offensive pressure was a testament to their defensive structure and resilience.
Brookfield Stars 8, New Ulm 2
Brookfield dominated New Ulm in their semifinal matchup, cruising to an 8-2 victory. Jack Templeton led the offense with 4 assists, while Adam Sexton chipped in 4 points (2 goals and 2 assists). The Stars’ depth and offensive firepower were on full display as they advanced to the championship game.

Saturday, December 28: Championship Game
Brookfield Stars 3, Somerset Spartans 2 (OT)
The championship game lived up to expectations, as Brookfield edged Somerset 3-2 in overtime. The Spartans battled fiercely, with Carson Belisle making 41 saves for a .932 save percentage to keep his team in the game. Despite his efforts, it was Brookfield’s Cooper Simon who sealed the victory, scoring the game-winning goal in overtime and finishing with 2 points in the contest. Jack Templeton also contributed 2 points for the Stars.
Both teams left it all on the ice, and the thrilling final was a fitting conclusion to an outstanding weekend of hockey.
