Onalaska making push for top seed in Sectional Four

For much of the game between D.C. Everest and Onalaska, the view around Hilltoppers goalie Scott Sibik looked something like this.

One view that the fans, coaches, and players never did see was a puck in the net, as the senior netminder repelled 31 shots to help lead Onalaska past the fifth-ranked Evergreens 4-0 Saturday afternoon in the Wisconsin Prep Hockey Game of the Week at the Omni Center in Onalaska.

The hosts didn't take long to put the biscuit in net when Jesse Tredinnick scored from the low right side just 30 seconds into the game. He gathered up the loose puck behind the net and skated to the front, beating DCE goalie Andy Mahler--who was filling in for the ill Jared Enkers. Keaton Bronston was credited with an assist.

Three minutes later the home squad went on the power play and it only took 20 seconds for Tredinnick to tally his second goal of the game. He punched in a rebound from the right side at the 3:44 mark with assists to Bronston and Dylan Peterson, giving Onalaska a 2-0 lead. On the penalty, Onalaska's Jake Taylor suffered an injury to his right arm/shoulder area and was taken for x-rays.

The horn would sound with no change in score and the hosts holding a slight 7-6 shot edge.

The second period featured lots of action but no scoring. The Evergreens came out firing, putting 18 shots on net compared to the Hilltoppers' five, but neither squad could put the five-ounce disk past the opposing keeper.

DCE senior forward Alex Yde had perhaps five or six chances in the game against Sibik, but was denied each time.

"I thought he was a really good goalie and he was able to make a lot of crucial saves for them."

Early in the period, DCE's Eli Jasurda had to be helped off by the medical staff after a collision with an Onalaska player.

Teams exchanged power play chances in the third before someone would change the digits on the scoreboard.

Bronston took the puck down the left side and loosed a shot from the left circle that beat the goalie to make it 3-0 at the 9:52 mark of the period, with the assist going to John Gargaro.

Tredinnick had a chance to extend the lead just over a minute later, but he was taken down by DCE's Allan Sackmann and crashed into Mahler as the penalty (holding) was called. DCE killed off the penalty but would not be so lucky with less than three minutes left in the contest.

Bronston carried the puck down the right side as Peterson came along on the left on a 2-on-1 rush. A well-placed pass from Bronston resulted in a Peterson goal from the left circle to make it 4-0 at the 14:05 mark. Tredinnick capped off his fine day with an assist on the scoring play.

As in the first, the home team held a slight shot edge (8-7).

For DCE (16-3-2), Mahler stopped 16 shots.

Onalaska improved to 17-4 and will host the Sparta co-op next Thursday. The Evergreens will face Antigo at Greenheck on Tuesday.
