Chequamegon/Phillips (Team Seal) brought a very young squad down to Shawano to face the Shawano/Bonduel Hawks. They left town a little battered and bruised after an 8-2 beating at the hands of the Hawks on Saturday afternoon.
Eight of the fifteen rostered players for Team Seal are freshman, including both goalies. In other words, half of the team could be bolstering the Price Ice bantam team instead of getting beat up in high school hockey. But they will grow and learn. It just takes time.
Each team scored a goal before the fans had a chance to get comfortable in their seats. The Hawks got theirs when Jeremy Helmuth passed the puck from the right corner to the slot for a one-timer by Gavin Hundt just 31 seconds in. Team Seal came right back scoring on an odd-man rush with Angelina BeBeau passing to Kellen Kranig for the tap in.
From there it was all Hawks for the rest of the first period. Shawano poured in three more goals in that first, with scores by Blake Swedberg, Waylon Snider, and Hundt picking up his second.
Shawano/Bonduel goalie Kaiden Thornborrow stopped 4 shots in the period, while at the other end, Oliver Soviak recorded 2 saves.
The Hawks would tally four more goals in the second period, three against Soviak, and the last one scored on Nick Pesko, who replaced Soviak right after the seventh goal.
Angelina BeBeau added a second goal for Team Seal in the third, making the final score 8-2.
