The 24-25 edition of the Wisconsin Selects has been chosen and they will begin defense of their 2024 Girls Tier II 19U USA Hockey championship in September. Wisconsin defeated the East Coast Wizards 3-0 in East Lansing, Michigan last April to claim their first ever National Championship. Following their summer tryouts in Chippewa Falls and Beaver Dam, the twenty-player team roster has been selected for the upcoming pre-post 24-25 season. The team will gather to practice in August and then open their game schedule September 6th in Baldwin.

Wisconsin welcomes back ten members of last year’s team: Goalies - Mckenna Hutchison and Greta Woelber, Defensemen – Ashley Shupe and Rhylee Buesgen, Forwards – Reese Sheehan, Addisyn Buesgen, Gabi Heuser, Reese Duncan, Kayla Dogs and Addison Gruhlke. The team graduated eight seniors- five will be playing college hockey this fall- Addy Milota at Augsburg, Kiera Ballweg at MSOE and Sydney Magnuson, Zowie Hunter and Mallory Schmidt at Marian.

Newcomers to the team include; Forwards – Rachael Beeck, Annika Olinski, Ava Kilgora, Abby Elliot and Bailey Schuh, Defensemen – Eleanor Adams and Payton Dykstra, Forward/Defensemen - Emmerson Berger, Colby Sprenger and Sophia Johnson.

In all fifty-five players tried out and the Selects staff would like to thank all of those who attended. For those underclassmen who did not make this year’s team, we hope you will be back to try out again next year. Tryouts are held in June and July each summer.

The Selects coaching staff will return intact led by head coach Emily Bauer and assistant coaches Steve Kirley, Dan Bauer and Greg Slupe. Mike Cowan remains the team’s general manager, with Chris Buesgen the team manager.

The team is scheduled to play twenty-four games prior to the start of the WIAA season. Wisconsin will add a new step in their quest to qualify for nationals this year. In early November they will face-off with the Badger City 19U team in best of three game series to earn the right to go to Central District tryouts in March. If they advance through Central Districts, they will return to defend their title at the Chipotle USA Hockey National Championships held in Cleveland, Ohio, April 2 -6.

Wisconsin finished last season with a 24-5-1 record.
