Deltgen Stops 23 In The Win

In the game between the Sun Prairie co-op Cougars and MSO Icebergs, both teams had a freshman in goal. The Icebergs with Kenzie Torpy and the Cougars had Dani Deltgen at the other end.

Both played well enough to win, but the Cougars scored goals early and late in a 2-0 shutout of the Icebergs in a Badger Conference Girls matchup.

Amber Deltgen helped in her sister's cause with the first goal of the game. With power play time winding down, she was able to get one past Torpy for a 1-0 lead with 7:28 left in the first period.

Although it mostly was all Cougars in the first period, the second period was mostly all Icebergs. Both teams looked to push to get a fast paced game going but both goalies were very stingy, and  the 1-0 lead stood through two periods.

With 41 seconds left of a power play left to start period three, the Icebergs made a big push to try to get it tied, but Deltgen stopped everything. Finally with 4:15 left the Cougars got some breathing room when Jamie Henderson scored on a shot when she skated through the slot and beat Torpy low for the final margin.

The Icebergs made one final push to get on the board, but the Cougars played good defensive hockey and were able to escape with a 2-0 road win. Mike Johnson, the Head Coach of SPCC was happy to get this win. " We have lost some close games lately, but hopefully this will get us going the right way. The girls on both teams know each other well so it made for a great matchup."

SPCC moves now to 6-1 in conference play while MSO is now 4-4. SPCC plays Appleton on Saturday, while MSO takes to the road against Viroqua Friday.
