The first period of Wisconsin vs. Minnesota HP-18 started out with little flow and few offensive opportunities. Six minutes into the first period Joseph Coghlin was called for an interference. Wisconsin’s penalty kill was up to the task and shut down Minnesota’s power play. The first period ended 0-0 and shots were 8-6 in favor of Wisconsin.
Minnesota scored 1:55 into the second period with a goal by Brooks Cullen of Moorhead. Brooks is the son of Matt Cullen, former NHL player and winner of three Stanley Cup’s. The second period ended with Minnesota HP 18 up 1-0. Shots were 18-17 in favor of Wisconsin Seniors
In the third period Minnesota had a significant advantage in shots and opportunities. Bay Port’s Devin Rustlie looked like the Florida Panthers Sergie Bobrovsky for a few minutes as he made some spectacular saves. However, Minnesota scored twice in the third to take a 3-0 lead which they never relinquished. Wisconsin got on the scoreboard with 3:14 remaining with a goal by Jackson Hoem of Chippewa Falls, assisted by Will McDonald of Madison West.
Wisconsin lost by a final score of 1-3. Shots were 35-27 in favor of Minnesota HP-18.
