2023-24 Eastern Shores Conference Tournament Champions

Charlotte Fetherston Leads USM to Title

The Eastern Shores Conference is one of three WIAA girl's hockey conferences in Wisconsin and the only one to play a conference tournament at the end of the season. The conference teams play each conference opponent once during the regular season in a conference game (they could meet in another tournament, but that doesn't count as a conference game).

On Thursday, February 1st, University School of Milwaukee played the Bay Area Ice Bears winning 4-3 to advance to the tournament championship game. The Warbirds defeated the Lakeshore Lightning 4-1 to advance to the championship game.

The Warbirds were accessed a hooking penalty at 3:22 of the first period. The Wildcats took advantage of the situation, when Charlotte Fetherston scored a power play goal at 4:04 with London Chase assisting to give USM a 1-0 lead. Coincidental minors were accessed to each team at 15:31 of the first. The Wildcats led 1-0 at the end of the period.

The Warbirds picked up their third penalty of the game at 8:07 of the second. This was a checking penalty. The Warbirds killed off the penalty to keep it a one goal game. USM was accessed a hooking penalty at 11:20 of the period, but were able to keep the Warbirds from scoring. The second period ended with University School still leading 1-0.

The Warbirds tied the game on an even strength goal by Chloe Tobin with Abby Waara being credited with the assist at 1:11 of the third. This was the only goal of the period and the game ended tied at 1 at the end of regulation.

The first overtime found the Warbirds being accessed a minor penalty for interference at 5:41. The Warbirds picked up another penalty with 8 seconds remaining on the earlier penalty at 7:33 for checking. The Warbirds killed off both of the penalties to keep the game tied.

The game went into a second overtime. The Wildcats' Charlotte Fetherston scored an unassisted goal at 4:39 allowing USM to claim the win.

Molly Jex finished the game with 23 saves for USM. Emma Jilling had 23 saves for the Warbirds.
