While I don't claim to be a hockey expert, the one thing I will say is one of the worst things a parent can tell their child that is starting to play hockey is "you need to score, assists don't matter". Yes, I have heard of mite parents saying this to their player. When you look at the point leaders for girl's hockey you find Autumn Cooper of Superior with 22 goals and 21 assists. Two spots lower you find Kendall Sundby of St. Croix Valley with 16 goals and 19 assists. When teams know you are a player that can score, it is even more important to know how to pass the puck and assist your teammate to score.

The Fusion and Lynx were meeting in the third place game of the Culver's Cup Tournament. The Fusion were able to take the lead on a goal by Lily Mittl with an assist from Kendall Sundby at 11:20 of the first period. Kendall Sundby scored an unassisted goal at 12:59 to put St. Croix Valley up 2-0. Annalice Dalebroux scored for the Metro Lynx at 13:58 of the period make it a 2-1 game. The Fusion scored a power play goal with 18 seconds remaining in the first period, when Kraly Walker scored with Kendall Sundby and Morgan Kivel being credited with assists. Fusion lead 3-1 at the end of one.

Brita Lake pulled the Lynx within one with a power play goal with an assist from Annalice Dalebroux at 4:23 of the second. The Fusion's Jane Volgren bumped the lead back to two with Alexis Ralston assisting at 10:15 of the second period. The Fusion led 4-2 at the end of two.

The Metro Lynx cut the deficit to one on a goal by Emma Stebbeds with Sophie Wilde and Paige Brien assisting at 2:47 of the third. Less than a minute later, 3:41, Izzy Goldshmidt and Paige Brien assisted on Emma Stebbeds goal to tie the game at 4. Regulation came to an end with the game knotted up at 4.

The Fusion pulled out a win with a goal by Jane Volgren assisted by Kendall Sundby and Oaklie Holldorf at 6:27 of overtime.
